Remember the Miners

Founded in response to the 2010 Upper Big Branch Mining Disaster, where 29 miners tragically lost their lives, Remember the Miners is a charitable organization dedicated to honoring the sacrifices and contributions of coal miners. Co-founded by Coach Bob Huggins, Greg Darby, and Erik Muendel, our mission is to raise awareness about miners' critical role in powering America while providing support and educational opportunities for mining families.

2025 Bob Huggins Fish Fry

We are proud to be part of the 2025 Bob Huggins Fish Fry, an annual fundraising event that brings together sports legends, community leaders, and supporters for a cause close to our hearts.  A portion of the proceeds from the event help sustain our mission and strengthen support for miners and their families.

Supporting the Mining Extension Service and Mine Rescue Team

Through our fundraising efforts, Remember the Miners supports the Mining Extension Service and the Mine Rescue Team at West Virginia University. Established in 1913, the Mining Extension Service provides essential training and certification programs for miners, focusing on safety, emergency preparedness, and career advancement. The WVU Mine Rescue Team, an award-winning group of students and industry professionals, competes internationally, preparing for real-life emergency scenarios while promoting mine safety and innovation.
